OPTIONAL: HALF-DAY TOUR OF SAUSALITO AND THE MUIR WOODS

This half-day tour from San Francisco includes a stroll through an old coastal redwood forest and a visit to Sausalito, a creative community on the water. Any visitor to the San Francisco Bay Area must see the Muir Woods National Monument. One of the last remaining coastal redwood forests in the world can be found in the designated nature reserve, which is only a short distance across the Golden Gate Bridge. Choose between an early or late departure. To get a great perspective of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz, stop at a vista point. Then, go through the Marin Headlands' undulating emerald hills until you reach Muir Woods. Take a stroll through the extensive roads that wind through the forest, which are lined with enormous redwood trees, some of which reach heights of 250 feet (76 meters) and are approximately 800 years old. After visiting Muir Woods, take a quick drive to Sausalito to explore the artsy bayside settlement.
